Every small business in India already uses WhatsApp. The orders come there. The questions come there. The complaints come there. So why does a business need the WhatsApp Business API? This post answers that with numbers, not opinions.
1. Your customers are already on WhatsApp
India is WhatsApp's biggest market in the world. More than 535 million people here use it every month. It is installed on about 94 out of every 100 Android phones. Nothing else comes close — not email, not SMS, not any app.
Sources: Statista and Backlinko (2025); Meta newsroom (December 2024); TechCrunch (December 2025).
Businesses have noticed. The number of Indian businesses on WhatsApp Business has grown more than 130% since 2021. That is faster than WhatsApp itself.
2. WhatsApp messages get read. Emails do not.
You have sent email offers. You know what happens. Most of them are never opened.
Industry benchmarks for marketing messages, 2025. Your exact numbers will vary. Email figure is a common average across industries.
Industry benchmarks put WhatsApp open rates between 85% and 98%. Email averages around 21%. Even if the real number for your business is lower, the gap is huge. A message on WhatsApp is seen. A message by email is a lottery.
3. Customers want to message you
This is the part most owners miss. Customers do not just tolerate WhatsApp. They prefer it.
Meta and industry consumer surveys, 2024–2025.
Two out of three shoppers say they are more likely to buy from a business they can message. That is not a marketing trick. That is how people shop now.
4. So what is the problem?
The problem is not WhatsApp. The problem is that your WhatsApp is on one phone.
- When the owner is busy, nobody replies.
- The broadcast list in the free app has a hard cap.
- Only people who saved your number get the broadcast.
- There is no report. You do not know who read it.
- Your website and billing software cannot send a message through it.
India has more than 65 million small and medium businesses. Only about 5 million sell online. The other 60 million are running on a phone in the owner's pocket.

5. What the WhatsApp Business API changes
The API is Meta's official platform for businesses. It is not an app. It takes your number off one phone and gives you:
- A team inbox — your whole team replies from one number, in a browser.
- Bulk campaigns — one approved message to thousands of customers who opted in. With sent, delivered and read counts.
- An auto-reply bot — answers fixed questions at midnight. Hands the rest to a person.
- A verified business name on the customer's screen.
- API access — your store or billing software sends order updates by itself.
And it cannot be banned for being the API. Unofficial bulk-sender tools automate a normal number and get it banned. The API is the legal way.

What we do for you:
- Create your WhatsApp Business Account on Meta's Cloud API.

7. What it does not do — said plainly
We would rather you know now than later.
- It does not include an AI chatbot. The bot follows rules you set.
- It does not guarantee the green tick. Meta decides that. We help you apply.
- It does not send unlimited messages. Meta's rules apply to every business.
- It does not send SMS, and it does not include a built-in CRM.
- Chat history from the WhatsApp app does not move to the API.
The short version
535 million Indians are on WhatsApp. They open WhatsApp messages and ignore emails. Two out of three prefer to buy from a business they can message. Your business is already there — on one phone. The API puts it on a platform, from ₹790 a month.

FAQs
Is the WhatsApp Business API the same as the WhatsApp Business app?
No. The app is free and runs on one phone. The API is Meta's paid platform for companies: a team inbox in a browser, bulk campaigns to opted-in lists, a bot, and a connection for your website or software. There is no app to install.
How much does it cost?
Instacode.in offers three monthly plans: Starter ₹790, Growth ₹990 and Pro ₹1,290. No setup fee and no minimum term. Any usage-based charges are explained on WhatsApp before you start.
Will it get my number banned like bulk sender tools?
No. Unofficial tools automate a normal WhatsApp number and get it banned. The API is Meta's own channel. Your number is verified, your templates are approved, and you send only to people who opted in.
Do I need a developer?
No. Campaigns, the inbox and the bot work from a browser. A developer is only needed if you want your own website or software to send messages through the API, which is available on the Pro plan.
