Diwali falls on Sunday, 8 November 2026, with Dhanteras on 6 November and Bhai Dooj on 10 November. Every buyer wants their gift before the day. A clear last order date for Diwali delivery is the simplest way to avoid angry messages and bad reviews.

Why you need a cut-off date

In the week before Diwali, couriers carry far more parcels than usual, and delays of a day or two are common. If a buyer orders on 6 November and the parcel arrives on 10 November, they will blame you, not the courier.

Work backwards from Diwali

Start from 8 November and count back. For each zone, add your packing time plus the courier's normal delivery time, plus two extra days for the rush.

  • Same city (local delivery): last order around 6 November.
  • Same state: around 3–4 November.
  • Rest of India: around 31 October – 1 November.
  • North East, J&K, islands: around 27–28 October.

These are examples. Check your own courier's usual times and adjust.

Tell buyers clearly

  • Add a line to every festive product description: "Order by 1 November for Diwali delivery across India."
  • Mention it in your WhatsApp and Instagram posts.

A clear date also creates honest urgency — people order earlier.

Pack ahead

Pre-pack your best sellers and gift boxes in the last week of October. On busy days, you only need to add the label. Keep extra boxes, tape and filler ready — they run out in local markets too.

Ship daily

Do not hold orders to ship in one batch. Ship every day, and book pickups early in the day. If you use courier automation, check that pickups are actually happening.

After the cut-off

Keep the store open, but change the message: "Orders now will be delivered after Diwali." Some buyers still want the item. Local buyers can be offered store pickup if you have a shop.

Payments in the rush

Prepaid orders are safer in the festive rush, because returned COD parcels cost you double. Partial COD — a small advance with the rest on delivery — is a good middle path for costly items.

A quick checklist

  • Cut-off dates set for each zone.
  • Product notes updated.
  • Packing material stocked.
  • Daily pickups booked.
  • Post-cut-off message ready.

Our online stores let you set delivery charges, take UPI and cards through Razorpay, and on Pro and Elite, book couriers through Shiprocket with partial COD. See online store plans or read Diwali packing and shipping tips.
