WhatsApp messages get opened — that is not the problem. The problem is that most offer messages are opened, glanced at and forgotten. The goal of a good WhatsApp marketing message is a reply, because a reply is the start of a sale.

A simple formula

  1. Name — start with the customer's name.
  2. Reason — why you are writing to them, today.
  3. One thing — one product, one offer, one piece of news.
  4. Easy reply — a question they can answer in one word.

Keep it under five lines. Long messages get skipped.

8 examples you can adapt

1. Restock

"Hi Anjali, the blue cotton kurti you asked about last month is back in size M. Shall I keep one aside for you? Reply YES."

2. Back in season

"Hi Suresh, fresh Nashik raisins from the new harvest just arrived. Same 1 kg pack you ordered in March. Want me to send one?"

3. Win-back

"Hi Meera, it has been a while! We have added 20 new designs since your last visit. Reply NEW and I will send you the top five."

4. Festival

"Hi Rahul, Diwali gift boxes are ready — dry fruits, sweets and a diya set. Orders placed by 1 November arrive before the festival. Want the photos?"

5. Appointment slot

"Hi Pooja, we have two bridal trial slots left this Saturday — 11 am and 3 pm. Reply 1 or 2 to book."

6. Feedback

"Hi Arjun, how are the new running shoes? Reply with a number from 1 to 5. We read every reply."

7. Early access

"Hi Kavita, as a regular customer, you get to see our wedding collection two days before everyone else. Reply SHOW for the preview."

8. Useful tip

"Hi Vikram, a quick tip: store your basmati in an airtight jar away from sunlight to keep the aroma. Need a refill soon?"

Why these work

  • They feel personal, not like a broadcast.
  • Each has one clear action.
  • The reply is effortless — a word or a number.
  • They are based on what the customer already bought or asked.

Mistakes that get you blocked

  • Messaging every day. Once or twice a month is plenty for most shops.
  • ALL CAPS, many emojis and "LIMITED TIME!!!" lines.
  • Sending the same offer to everyone, including people who never buy that category.
  • Messaging people who never agreed to hear from you.

WhatsApp also limits how many marketing messages a person receives from businesses, so fewer, better messages to the right list work better than big blasts.

Doing this for hundreds of customers

Personal messages are easy for ten customers, hard for a thousand. On the official WhatsApp Business API, you send approved templates with each customer's name and details filled in, to lists you choose. On our Growth and Pro plans, you can sort customers into lists, and every reply comes into one shared inbox your team answers. Pro also lets you pause marketing to a contact for a few days after they receive a campaign.

FAQs

How do I write a WhatsApp marketing message that gets replies?

Start with the customer's name, give one reason you are writing, offer one thing, and ask a question they can answer in one word. Keep it under five lines.

How often should a business send WhatsApp offers?

For most shops, once or twice a month is enough. Too many messages lead to blocks.

Should I send the same offer to every customer?

No. Sort customers into lists by what they bought or asked about, and send each list only what suits it.

How can I personalise messages for many customers?

Use the WhatsApp Business API with approved templates that fill in each customer's name and details, sent to lists you choose.
