Getting a new customer costs money — ads, offers, time. Research often quoted from Harvard Business Review says winning a new customer can cost 5 to 25 times more than keeping an existing one. So the cheapest growth for a small store is simple: get your buyers to come back.

1. Make the first order perfect

Nobody returns after a bad first experience. Ship on time, pack well and send exactly what the photo showed. If something goes wrong, fix it fast and politely — a problem solved well often builds more loyalty than no problem at all.

2. Add a thank-you note

A small handwritten card in the parcel — "Thank you, Priya! Hope you love it." — costs almost nothing and people remember it. Add your WhatsApp number and Instagram handle on the card.

3. Give a reason to order again

Put a next-order coupon in the parcel or the thank-you message: "Use THANKYOU10 for 10% off your next order." Coupon codes are easy to create in your store's admin panel, and you can see how many people used them.

4. Ask for a review

A few days after delivery, ask for a short review on the product page. Happy buyers usually say yes if you ask kindly. Reviews help the next buyer decide — and the reviewer feels a little closer to your brand.

5. Follow up at the right time

Think about when a buyer will need you again:

  • Consumables (spices, tea, skincare): remind them when the pack is likely to finish — maybe in 30 or 45 days.
  • Clothes and gifts: message before the next festival or season.
  • Kids' items: new sizes every few months.

One useful message at the right time works better than ten random offers.

6. Remember festivals

Diwali, Rakhi, Eid, Christmas, Pongal and wedding season bring planned buying. Send past buyers one short message about new arrivals two or three weeks before each festival.

7. Suggest what goes together

On our Pro and Elite plans, frequently-bought-together suggestions show related items on the product page — a matching dupatta, a refill pack, a gift box. Buyers often add one more thing they would have bought later anyway.

8. Don't spam

Message only buyers who agreed to hear from you, and keep it to a few useful messages a month. Too many offers make people block your number.

Track it simply

Once a month, check how many orders came from people who had bought before. If that number is growing, your store is building real customers, not one-time visitors.

Our online stores include coupons, reviews, abandoned-cart reminders and GST invoices. See online store plans or read how to get your first reviews.
