Ecommerce Website for Medical Stores

A medical store's online business is not built on new customers. It is built on the same twenty families and the same handful of clinics ordering the same things every month — and on getting the paperwork right every single time.

So an ecommerce website for medical stores is judged on two boring things: does it remember, and does it bill correctly.

Prescription handling — what this does not do

Being straight about this first, because it is the question every chemist asks.

The store has no prescription upload or verification system. There is no workflow that collects a prescription, checks it, or holds an order until a pharmacist approves it. That is not built.

What most stores do instead is take the order online and handle the prescription the way they already do — over WhatsApp, or at the counter on collection. If a formal prescription workflow is essential to how you want to operate, this is not the right fit, and it is better to know that now.

Which products you list online, and what the law requires for each, is your decision and your responsibility. We build the store; the licensing and compliance side stays with you and your advisors.

The order that repeats every month

Chronic medication is the backbone of this business. The same customer, the same items, roughly the same date.

Customer management keeps full order history against each person — what they took, in what quantity, when. That turns a reorder into a thirty-second conversation instead of a hunt through a register.

It also shows you who has stopped. In a repeat-purchase category, a customer who has not ordered in six weeks is information worth having, and most stores never see it.

Being clear on what is missing: there is no subscription or auto-refill billing. Repeat orders are placed by the customer; a WhatsApp reminder helps, automatic charging does not exist.

Billing that survives an audit

Medical retail has tighter billing expectations than most trades, and a clinic or corporate buyer will not accept a rough bill.

GST billing generates a proper invoice on every order — automatic CGST and SGST within your state, IGST outside it, per-product tax rates and correct HSN codes, with an unbroken financial-year series.

The GST register exports to Excel, so a quarter's reconciliation is one download. For a business where margins are set by regulation rather than negotiation, time saved on paperwork is real money.

Stock has to be honest

Accepting an order for something you do not have is bad in any category. Here it can mean a patient waits.

Inventory management tracks quantity per pack size, so a strip and a bottle of the same brand are separate lines, and an out-of-stock item comes off sale automatically rather than taking an order you cannot fill.

Custom attributes carry pack size, composition, brand and manufacturer as their own fields. Note these are display fields you fill in — the store does not manage stock by batch, and there is no expiry-tracking or alert system.

Delivery, and telling people where their order is

Most medical store delivery is local and done by your own boy on a two-wheeler, not by a courier.

Order management keeps the day's orders in one queue with status, which is usually the entire operational need. WhatsApp alerts confirm the order and tell the customer when it is on the way — and in this category that reassurance matters more than in most.

Shiprocket is there for the orders that go further, and COD is controlled per product and per order value if you want prepayment on higher-value items.
