A buyer sees ₹999 on your product page, then ₹1,179 at checkout because GST was added at the end. Many will leave. In India, retail buyers expect the price they see to be the price they pay. Here is how to show GST in your online store prices simply and honestly.

Retail buyers: show tax-inclusive prices

For ordinary customers, show one final price that already includes GST, with a small line: "Inclusive of all taxes". This matches what they see in shops and avoids nasty surprises at checkout.

Packaged goods and MRP

For pre-packaged goods, the MRP printed on the pack is inclusive of all taxes, and you cannot charge more than MRP. You can sell below MRP — many stores show the MRP struck out and their selling price beside it.

B2B buyers: show the tax clearly

Businesses that claim input tax credit care about the price before tax and the GST amount. If you sell mostly to businesses, you can mention "₹1,000 + 18% GST" — but say it clearly on the product page, not only at checkout.

On the invoice

Whatever you show on the page, the GST invoice must break down the taxable value and the tax — CGST and SGST for sales within your state, IGST for sales to other states. B2B invoices should carry the buyer's GSTIN too.

Getting the rate right

GST rates depend on the product and its HSN code, and rates were reorganised in 2025 under "GST 2.0". Check the current rate for each product with your accountant before you list it.

Common mistakes

  • Adding GST only at checkout for retail buyers.
  • Charging more than MRP on packaged goods.
  • Using the wrong rate because an old list was copied.
  • Not giving a proper invoice with the order.

Shipping charges and GST

If you charge for delivery, that charge is usually part of the sale value too. Show delivery charges early on the product page, so the final amount never surprises the buyer.

A simple checklist

  • Retail prices shown inclusive of GST.
  • "Inclusive of all taxes" written near the price.
  • Correct HSN and rate for each product.
  • GST invoice with every order.
