The course is the purchase, not the bottle
Someone completes a treatment at a centre and goes home with instructions for the next three months. Two kashayams, a thailam, a lehyam, taken in a particular way for a particular duration.
They do not want to hunt for four products across four pages and work out quantities. They want to continue what they were told to do.
So build for that. Course packs as single products where the combination is standard, with the duration in the title — a three-month set rather than four separate bottles. And where the combination varies, make sure the individual items are easy to find by their exact classical name.
Quantity guidance belongs on the page too. If a course runs sixty days at the usual dosage, say how many bottles that is. A customer who orders one and runs out in three weeks blames the shop, not their own arithmetic.
Kashayam, thailam, lehyam, choornam — say which
The preparation type is not a detail in Kerala ayurveda. It determines how something is stored, how it is taken, how long it keeps and what it costs.
Carry it as a structured, filterable attribute. Someone who has been told to take a kashayam should be able to see every kashayam you stock, which is how a returning patient actually shops.
Then use the exact classical name as the product title. Dhanwantharam thailam is a specific thing; naming it as "ayurvedic massage oil" makes you invisible to everyone searching for what they were actually prescribed.
Where a preparation has a widely used alternate spelling — and most of them do, across Malayalam and Roman transliteration — put the alternates in the page text. That is where a large share of the search traffic in this category is hiding.
You are supplying a prescription you cannot see
This needs stating plainly. The store has no prescription upload and no verification workflow. There is no field for a patient to attach a vaidya\'s note, no review queue before dispatch, and no way for the system to check what has been advised.
There is also no appointment or consultation booking. If a customer needs to speak to a practitioner before ordering, that happens the way it already does — by phone, or at the centre.
The practical structure most Kochi sellers arrive at is a narrow catalogue. Classical preparations in common use, personal care, and general wellness products. Each listed with its standard indications in ayurvedic terms and the dosage exactly as the label states it.
Anything a customer is uncertain about becomes a conversation. A WhatsApp button on the product page is the right route for that, because the question is nearly always about a specific preparation rather than about your shop.
Manufacturers here have names worth using
Kerala has traditional manufacturers whose names carry real weight with anyone who knows the field. A buyer choosing between two sellers of the same preparation is often choosing on who made it.
So make manufacturer a filterable attribute rather than a line in the description, and use the full proper name. Someone who was told to buy a particular house's version should be able to filter to it in one click.
Carry the AYUSH manufacturing licence number as a field alongside it, along with GMP certification where the manufacturer holds it. Serious buyers look for it, and its absence is what a cautious one notices.
This is also what separates a Kochi seller from a general wellness store elsewhere. You have access to the genuine article from recognised houses, and the catalogue should make that obvious rather than leaving it implied.
Oils travel badly if you let them
A large share of what you ship is liquid, in glass, in a country where parcels are not handled gently.
Pack for it and say so. A leaked thailam does not only cost you a replacement — it ruins everything else in the box and produces a customer who tells other people about it.
Kerala's humidity is the other practical issue. Storage guidance belongs on every product page as text you write: keep away from moisture, do not refrigerate unless stated, use within a period after opening.
The platform has no batch tracking and no expiry alerting. It will not warn you that stock is ageing or tie a bottle to a manufacture date. Print the batch and manufacture date on the pack, which is required anyway, and keep rotation a storeroom discipline.
The patient who went home to another state
Kochi treats people who do not live in Kochi. Someone from Delhi or Ahmedabad completes a course at a centre here and then needs to continue it for months from a city where nothing comparable is stocked.
That is the most valuable customer in this business and the easiest one to lose, because the only thing standing between you and the reorder is whether they can find you again.
Put your web address on the bill and on the packing slip before they leave the centre. Customer management keeps their history, so when they call describing something vaguely, you can look up exactly what they were given.
Reorder timing is worth paying attention to as well. A course has a known duration, so you can reasonably estimate when somebody is due to run out. A message a week before is helpful; a message a week after is too late, because they have already found another supplier or stopped the course.
Shiprocket on the Pro plan handles the outbound dispatch with tracking, which matters here because a patient waiting to continue a course checks that page.
